Studio Lighting Course

This course is designed to equip the students with studio lighting skills for portraiture and still life subjects.

The instructor shall introduce the various tyoes of light sources, their effects, the lighting techniques, set up of a studio and posing of a model. Students have the chance to design and shoot their own still life subject.


Course Syllabus

Module 1:

Introduction – Equipment / Studio Layout / Camera, Lens & Accessories / Lighting System / Size & Quality of Light
Portraiture Lighting Techniques – Broad / Narrow / Butterfly / Indoor / One & Two Lights / Three & More Lights / Rembrandt Lighting

Module 2:

(1 studio session) Practical Session (with model) / Model Posings / High & Low Key Portraits

Module 3:

Basic Lighting Setup for a Still Life / Design & Shoot Your Own Still Life

Module 4:

(1 studio session) Practical Session / Photo Critique / Course Wrap-up


Assessment

Upon completion of the course, participants are required to submit a set of six 8” x 10” or 8” x 12” mounted prints for assessment. Course certificates will only be awarded upon successful submission.

Duration            : 4 weeks (3 hours per session)
Time                  : 7:00pm to 9:30pm Weekdays (except outings)
Fees                  : $200 (member) $300 (non-member)

*Course fees do not include any model, transport and miscellaneous costs that will be incurred during outings and practical sessions (where applicable). These will be made known to participants prior to the event, where possible, and shall be borne by the participants.

  • Mandarin and special timeslot courses subject to instructor availablity and minimum participation take-up rate. Participation take-up rates vary from course to course.
